Blogspot no more

I decided to end this blog.
Realized that since no one ever read my blog (total number of readers never exceed 4) and I am doing a hopeless job of keeping an online diary, its best of our interest to shut down this blog. Will spare my friends and whoever accidentally bumped in no more of my mindless whining and silly antics.

I will like to end on a nice note, so i come up with this.

When I am really bored - Counter Strike

Was really really bored today so i decided to explore a bit about how the popular game Counter Strike (CS) can be more interesting.

Managed to get the AI bots to use their knives and nothing else. Quite a change from those "tang tang tang" since now all i hear are those swishing sounds. Quite a change of view too, now that i see scenes i have never saw when the bots are using pistols/rifles/shotguns/machine guns.

As you can see, since now bots have to get up close and personal to kill one another, orgies are common. Its not uncommon for any team to "gang rape" any single member of the other team too, see below.

And when my level of boredom rises, i buy weapons (heavy machine gun or shotgun) to pump those baddies.

Or use hand grenade to send them flying.

Shiok.

Subaru Impreza 1.5T - test drive

Subaru last week launched the latest Impreza, a hot hatch and a departure from the saloon design we are so used to.
I got 2 colleagues driving subarus, one a legacy and one a Impreza. The road holding prowess of subaru is amazing, no doubt due to its AWD and boxer engine. (Boxer engine is flatter in design, compared to the V's watsoever and single line engines, thus its lower center of gravity enables the car to take corners faster.)
My colleague (with the legacy) is very tempted to test drive the new impreza, jus to find out its performance. I a bit butt itchy decide to join him (and his son, whom he has to babysit) today after work to the Subaru showroom at Toa Payoh.
He test drive the Tribeca first. Wah, i am very impressed by the size and comfort of the SUV, stable and can take corners fast (but must tahan the body roll). But all these come at a price, heavy bodywork and 3 litre engine will add up to horrible fuel consumption.
My turn to test drive the Impreza. Must make sure its the auto version, how to get a feel of the car when i keep dying the engine in manual mah. The startup is impressive, the speedo and intruments needles swing in tandem to greet me when the key is turned.
The impression of the driver seat is its more cosy than the one i am used to (ie Mit Lancer). But the steering wheel is set very much lower, majiam like drive toy car like tat. Moving off the block is slow but once i depress pedal a bit more, the power came on and i can overtake cars with ease (some vios and vans, nothing spectacular). I cannot get used to the signal stalk on the left, i accidentally flick on the wipers when i want to filter right.
Overall impression of the Impreza? Not bad. The sales guy claimed that FC is now improved to 12Km/l (13 on paper) due to the double overhead cams and VVT. No idea how to in-coporate VVT onto boxer engines but doesn't matter. Cosy interior and readily available power, especially when i switched to Tiptronics mode. And at $61k+, this is an absolute bargain.

But just too bad. I have not reach a stage when i desperately need to buy a car to satisfy my ego. So while i feel shiok after the test drive, i feel a tingle of guiltiness for wasting the SE's time and petrol. This is the only way that a poor chap like me can do to have a feeling of how some cars perform because i simply cannot understand by reading Torque, Motoring alone.

Should i continue to do this time-wasting (for the SE) and ego-fulfilling activity?

F.I.R - 月牙湾

F.I.R - 月牙湾

9 Seconds

Today is the 8th session of my RT phase 1. Its the dreaded IPPT session.

Never like IPPT becos i suck at it. Standing Board Jump (SBJ) and 2.4k run were my killers. Today, it was a little more inspiring becos i have one friend with me to take the test, won't be so lonely.

Shuttle run was first, an easy 9.8sec for a 5 points. Never a problem for me.

Then the hated SBJ. My friend went b4 me and he got a 221 on first attempt. Thats a 3 points and good enuff but he tried again and got a 234 for a 4 points. Damn.
My turn, i got a 216. Not good enuff, i needed a 221 at least for pass. Second attempt and dunnoe wat got into me, i jus leapt off without thinking and got a 230 for a personal best. Weird, for me, SBJ is never a trainable item, depends more on luck.
Sit-up is next, getting a 40 is tough but manageable. With a tight stomach, going for the last static station chin-ups is shag. I squeezed out my milk-drinking strength to get 9 sets for a 4 points. So far so good, 18 points liao.

Yucks, i really hated this part. And now given that i have passed all those static stations, i desperately needed to pass the run, to clock 12min maximum (blame it on my vocation). I can still remember my timings for the 6 rounds.
Round1: 1:47
Round2: 3:56
Round3: 6:04
Round4: 8:09
Round5: 10:16
Last: 12:09

So thats how you get the title of this post.

佛牙寺 - one nite at chinatown

I got an invitation from the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum (known as BTRTM) sometime earlier to go down for the lighting ceremony for my 神. So i went down with my girlfriend on saturday afternoon for the ceremony.

As you can see, its a hot day. The air con inside the temple is very welcoming indeed. We managed to get ourselves registered for the 1pm+ session after i pondered on my chinese birthday and time of birth. My mum never bothered to tell me, neither was i interested. We then paid $20 for some items (i was not convinced to pay $38 more for the seven precious stones) which you can see below.

Consist (for one pax) one mini mooncake, one lamp, one wishing card, one handphone accessory carrying the symbol of each and finally one odd shaped paper with a lot of words i cannot understand on it.

Waited for about 10min and its our turn for the ceremony. Plenty of standing, chanting by the monks and ended with a short march to the end of the temple. Took about 15min although the standing and holding the items must have make it felt longer.

Then come sunday and my mum wanted to go down too. I thought it might be a good chance for me to take some nite photography and i went too. Here is one where the exact ceremony take place.

You can see many wishing cards, i kapo and read some. Its not surprising that some wrote Toto, 4D and passing driving test as their wishes.

Then something not related. I saw this on the road while trying to get a bus home. Its very near to where the temple is, i wonder what they are there for.

SBS - it can read ur mind

Our very own public bus service, namely SBS, has always been one of my favourite topic, not for its efficiency, but rather its lack of it.

You see, ever since i had to readily depend on SBS for my trips to and from uni, waiting time and travelling time were ripped from my life by slow drivers, poor coordinators and profits-driven company owners. I list them in the order of my memory below.

1) bus service 156 which i take to clementi has always been poor in its route itself. Always single deck, it will be crowded by the time it reaches my stop making it un-boardable. And the people crowded it will alight 2 stops later, so the bus will be empty. I guess the un-eveness of the distribution of the passengers make a super-bus not feasible, but then why can't they change the fucking route?

2) I noticed that AIR-CON buses almost always feel bloody cold during cold weather and warm during hot weather. If the air-con serve to remind me of the weather outside, pls stop calling ur buses AIR-CON bus.

3) Try taking feeder bus from my house in the morning. I think i complained about this before since i do not think i should be waiting more than 15min for one. Damn, the whole bus route is not even more than 10 stops!!!

4) SBS has the most amazing ability to know when you want ur bus to come most, and not giving you it. One very good example, sunday late morning 11+am, i am very hungry and waiting for bus 162 to come and bring me home for brunch. And guess wat, i waited almost 20min for one.

5) Having SBS to operate the bus and NEL at the same time jus defeat the whole meaning of competition. I simply cannot comprehend what exactly is our dearest Transport ministar is up to that time. Well, singaporeans are the wonderfully simple people to not complain and jus suck whatever trash throw to them. Another thing is the physically and mentally impossible barriers to operate another bus service to compete against SBS. Well, i guess its all linked.

Damn.
